LIGHT NEXT DOOR
2025

A gap of just a few millimeters at the bottom of the door. By inserting an acrylic panel into that space, light from the other side streams in. This lighting fixture does not emit light on its own; it functions only by borrowing light from the adjacent room and drawing it into its own space. As technology advances, human relationships have become more individualized than ever, moving toward greater physical and psychological distance. In a future where a lifestyle that minimizes contact with others has become the norm, the percentage of people choosing to withdraw or isolate themselves will likely be much higher than it is today. At the same time, the desire to sense someone’s presence or connection somewhere remains within us. “LIGHT NEXT DOOR” brings a quiet sense of security to a space by capturing light through the gap in the door separating the room from the outside and drawing in the presence of others. It is a communication tool that uses light to indicate the distance and presence of others, as well as our connection to the outside world.
